Cravings… How many of us have them…. Cravings
Cravings and weight loss don’t have to go hand in hand. Yes, you can lose weight without having to “give up” all your favorites. Moderation and avoidance are very different things.
What causes cravings?
The main culprits are:
- Deprivation
- Dieting
- Severe calorie restriction
- Sleep deprivation
Many of my clients “crash and burn” around 3:00 PM. Some faithfully get headaches at this time. This so NOT normal nor part of a “healthy weight loss” plan. By 3:00 PM, your body is simply reacting to breakfast being skipped and eating lunch extremely late (if at all).
What is one to do?
Contrary to popular belief, humans today are not designed to survive off one meal per day. Don’t take my word for it, evaluate how you feel when you gone 6+ hours without eating. Keep cravings at bay by eating a meal or snack every 4 hours – no more than 5 hours.
The key to success, is the size of those meals and snacks. Ultimately, the number of calories being taken in is specific to the individual. This also depends on goals and current health/fitness status.
