The Friday AFTER Thanksgiving.

For many, this is a shopping extravaganza. Up at 4:00 AM to stand in line to get the 70% off deals. Out all day long going from store to store.

The mistake many make on this day is not staying hydrated and not eating.

By the time the hype goes down from all the shopping deals, the body is beyond starved. More like “Hangry“!

Below, I give you 3 super easy tips that will keep energy levels up and cravings at bay while “shop ‘Till you drop” either virtually or in stores.

The Day After – How to Stay Fueled for all that Thanksgiving shopping

Tip #1 Don’t Skip Breakfast.

Even if leaving at a 4:00 AM, pack something to eat while standing in line if this is too early for your stomach to take down food.  Eat within 2 hours of waking up.

A good breakfast option in this case are Belvita Breakfast Biscuits. Pair this with either low-fat/fat free yogurt of choice around 100 calories per container or reduced fat string cheese of choice (1 or 2). This will help increase protein intake to carry you for 3 to 4 hours.

Sorry, coffee (with or without fruit), protein smoothie or fruit alone is not breakfast.

Tip #2 Eat out Sensibly.

Unless you’re a pro at packing meals/snacks while on the go all day, this is as day that eating out more than once will likely occur. Eat mindfully and make sensible choices. The #1 mistake people make is cutting out carbs! Doing this will keep you dragging and tired.

Review the menu and select a carb (rice, hamburger bun, potato, etc), lean protein (not just chicken – fish, lean steak, lean pork, etc). Fat intake will come with the food – no worries in getting fat in!

Tip #3 Stay Hydrated.

Water, Water, Water! There is no replacement for water. It’s perfectly fine to add crystal light or lemons in water. Gatorade is just added calories and sugar that you’re likely not burning.
