Tips on Grilling w/o Sabotaging Weight Loss

We are about a week away from a major holiday – Labor Day. This is generally a day off from work to rest and spend with the family.  The kids are out of school. Some travel, have family reunions, and the  most popular event for this holiday weekend is “grillin”.

  1. Do you dread this weekend coming up out of fear of over eating?
  2. Do you dread this weekend coming up out of fear of being  around food you purposefully don’t keep in the house?

You are not alone. I used to really overdo at house parties and other events outside my home. It’s like a muscle and it takes time to master self-control (not willpower!) and give yourself  ‘permission’ to eat without feeling the need to lose control – (a sure sign of the dieting cycle).

Here are 3 simply tips to survive Labor Day  feasts:

Tip #1 Limit/control empty calories for beverages – this includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Tip #2 Scope out options before making your plate. I tend to opt for things that are homemade vs store bought (I can get the later anytime).

Tip #3 The biggest mistake my clients make is skipping breakfast (an adequate breakfast!) and waiting until feast is ready – even if its 3:00 PM! This is a recipe for disaster and over eating for sure!

Make your plate wisely. The second biggest mistake people make is ‘going back for seconds’ .

The goal is enjoy the holiday feast without gaining 5 pounds or more. Ultimately, derailing all your hard work leading up to the weekend.

These are just a few tools to set you up for success to allow you to approach the day just like any other day – just different food choices. Hence, not sabotaging all your hard work and weight loss efforts!

Try to intentionally achieve at one of the three this weekend! In addition, its more about eating mindfully rather than to the point of your clothes feeling too tight.
