How to Stay on Track with you Weight Loss Goals During the Holiday Season! (Common Holiday Mistake #2)
Busyness has a way of getting the best of us.
Busyness includes our relationships, parenting, job/careers/school, volunteering, extended family, and running our kiddos to their multiple activities, etc.
Basically, over committing ourselves to the point we feel overwhelmed and short-tempered.
Stay with me until the end as I reveal a how to stay on track with you weight loss goals during the holiday season.
Question
In year’s past, how would you rate your level of “Holiday Craziness”?
Holiday Survival Tips! (holiday season weight loss)
- Being mindful during the holiday season is so very important.
- Deprivation is not the best approach as the Holidays are a time of fellowship and enjoyment – that involves food and drinks.
- Having a balance is key.
- The “all or nothing” approach tends to backfire and results in overindulging way more had you JUST giving yourself ‘permission’ to enjoy in the first place!
Self-Assessment
How are you feeling going into this holiday season? “Uneasy”, “Unmotivated”, “No different”, or “Joyful” –
Doing things different this year (holiday season weight loss)
Let’s make the Holiday Season this year different than in the year’s past!
How?
The first step is todays topic: “How to Stay on Track During the Holidays” –
What track?
Are you on track with your weight loss goals and/or health goals?
Do you feel you are at a point where can enjoy all that the Holidays brings without ANY regrets in January? (Hmm, this is many people’s biggest fear!)
Three questions for you….
- Have you lost the weight you hoped for in 2023?
- Have your energy levels increased since January?
- Do you feel healthier than you did this time last year?
If you answered NO to one or more of these questions, again you are not alone.
The good news, it’s not too late to answer YES to all 3 of these questions before this year comes to an end.
Last week, I revealed the first Holiday Mistake people make was skipping breakfast. The most common reason is to “Save” calories for holiday event or meal.
Holiday Mistake #2 (holiday season weight loss)
Going back for seconds!
So when we skip breakfast, we are showing up to the holiday event or meal vulnerable to everything in sight because we are “Super Hungry”.
Having all the best intentions to ‘save’ calories by skipping breakfast, you actually more than double to amount of calories you take in.
In most cases, the first plate is pretty full of food. Then, while you eating you see food you missed while making your plate. As more people walk past you with food you missed, self-control is out the window!
Therefore, I recommend assessing the options before making your plate. Going back for seconds is what generally sets people over the edge in one of two ways: 1) too stuffed, or 2) ‘what the hell‘ syndrome and just keep eating uncontrollable. Both of which lead to holiday weight gain.
Hence, another reason how we get off track!
Self-Assessment Question (holiday season weight loss)
If you show up to the ‘table’ way too hungry and before you know it you are feeling beyond stuffed! – Is this relatable?
