How to Get to the Gym (Exercise) on the Regular and Weight Loss

It’s hard to get started. Thinking about all we must do. Things are settling down from kids going back to school. Many of us are still struggling to “Get Back on Track” with our weight loss and health goals
Now is the time for “self” before the holiday craziness kicks in! Read more to gain a couple quick valuable tips on how to keep exercise on your schedule – no matter what!
What is procrastination?
- Procrastination means to delay or postpone action; put off doing something.
- Procrastination is the action of unnecessarily and voluntarily delaying or postponing something despite knowing that there will be negative consequences for doing so.
One of the most difficult things about exercise is…. Getting started!
For those who prefer to workout after work, here is a very simply tip to you “getting started” and a mistake to avoid!
Self-Assessment Question
What is your relationship with exercise? “Love-Hate”, “Love”, or Hate
Love-hate: Means you are only doing to help with weight loss but would prefer not to!
- Love: Your entire mood is OFF if you don’t get it in! (That’s me!)
- Hate: Don’t like it at all BUT once you “Get Started” you are OKAY with it.
- Hate: Will avoid it no matter what!

Tip #1
For those who prefer to workout after work and going to the gym, here is a very simply tip to help attack procrastination… Pack your workout clothes, water and post workout snack each night and take them both to work the next day.
[For those who work from home, have your clothes laid out (and shoes) where you can visibly see them. Also have water and post-workout snack ready. Dinner may also serve as post snack.
The goal is to make the transition quickly before realizing how mentally exhausted you are. Immediately head to gym, outside or start your online workout]
Treat working from home with the same level of importance as going into the office. For those physically going to their office, I often recommend that you take it a step further, put your workout bag in the CAR/Truck the night before.
It’s okay to forget water…. You can buy a bottle of water. It’s not okay to forget your workout clothes

Tip #2
This applies more to those who 1) have “Love-Hate” relationship with working out and/or 2) go to the gym after work So, the mistake many make is “Going home first to change clothes and then head to the gym”.
I remember when I was in ‘Corporate America’ and how I felt at the end of the day. Going home first to change clothes was a W-R-A-P for me. I was not leaving – unless I was going out to socialize. Just being real.

Tip #3
Many gyms have locker rooms – keep an extra pair of clothes the gym. This way, you never have to worry about not getting your workout in. After all, we all are human and forget.
I will never forget one day; I had all my workout clothes packed. I get to the gym, change my clothes, and FORGOT MY SHOES Lucky for me, it was a “Body Pump” class (resistance and muscle endurance – no cardio).
Lucky for me I had my flat shoes on that day….
YES, I DID!
Those who work out at home – have clothes out and visible as that added point of accountability! Also, to keep in the forefront of your mind to exercise after work

Working out, health and weight loss go hand in hand. Nutrition is 80% of the equation, but when effective exercise is part of the equation early in the game, they work together synergistically to maximize results! It goes without proclaiming, “You cannot *out* workout a bad diet!”
